Name: Libra
Gender: Female
Creator/Ambassador for: Tivialous, the Light Elemental
Personality: Moody would be a fairly accurate description of this dragon. One moment she'll be perfectly content, and the next she's just about ready to rip someone's head off. Some of the more observant dragons may be able to tell when one of these shifts is coming, but to most, Libra can be more than a little unpredictable when it comes to behavior. In spite of this, she holds a highly objective mindset. She's well aware that it's dangerous to let her emotions take control of her actions. Decisions are usually influenced by facts or the orders of a superior, and rarely come with any sort of personal bias.
And yet, for all her rapid-fire emotions and objectivity, she's really very insecure. Libra doesn't have much in the way of self-confidence, and is constantly anxious about one thing or another. She's terrified of failure, although she'd never openly admit to it. Defensive almost to a fault, she's quick to justify her actions if she feels she's being judged or criticized, and it takes a lot for her to admit she's wrong or afraid, even if it's painfully obvious. Perhaps if she could just manage to lighten up a little, she'd be able to make a few more friends (as she secretly wishes she could), but this is not to be.
By no means does Libra lack intelligence. Her ability to understand things clearly and logically rarely fails her, and she's quick to learn as well. New information is welcomed with open arms (at least in the figurative sense), and she's often quite happy to share what she knows with others. One can often find her curled up with a number of human and/or elvish books during her free time. She likes to study and explore, and has gathered a rather comprehensive arsenal of information over the years.
With a regrettably limited sense of humor, jokes and sarcasm tend to fly right over her head. Laughter is something of a rarity, and pranks are not received well. Her ability to trust is also somewhat lacking; she's often suspicious of unfamiliar faces, and it normally takes a while for her to fully relax around someone new. She's not rude, though- she does what she can to uphold an appropriate level of respect and deference, at least in the presence of the Elementals, and tries to be considerate of others and show some decent manners (although success isn't always a guarantee).
Once earned, Libra's trust and loyalty are not so easily shaken. She's a reliable sort, and can be trusted to uphold her promises. And, contradictory as it may be, she's actually very compassionate. She has a natural desire to help those in need, even though she feels she can't always act on it. She often has trouble displaying it, but beneath that changeable exterior lies a kind heart.
Appearance: Libra is somewhere in the middle of the scale where size is concerned. Not the biggest, not the smallest, just sort of... average. The length of her body and tail are about the same, but her legs are a bit long in proportion. As with her size, her build can be described as average- not too muscular, but not lacking in substance either. All four of her feet sport a total of three long, thin toes, all of which are dexterous enough to pick up objects (got to get her books off the shelves somehow).
Her body is covered in tough, rounded scales that come in a mix three colors; blue, yellow and dark gray. A slightly closer inspection reveals that the blue and yellow make uneven stripes all the way down her back. A row of spikes that ends before her wings runs down the back of her neck, getting larger and larger as they go. Groups of armor-like plates can be found on her shoulders, hips, and tail. These pieces are gray, like some of her scales, with a yellow 'trim', and are actually attached to her body (although it may not look like it). Another, single plate rests at the base of her neck, between her wings.
Libra has a grand total of two pairs of horns on her head. One set slopes upward, and the others curl down at the ends. Some smaller yellow spikes stick out along her jawline. Her eyes are an almost glowing yellow color, with small, round pupils. Her rarely-seen teeth are thin and needle-like- perfect for puncturing. Her wings resemble those of a bat, with slightly translucent, gray membranes. A few yellow swirling patters accent each piece between the three 'fingers', and a single claw tops each wing. A pair of fins that resemble her wings (minus the yellow markings) fan out from either side of her tail. They serve to help maintain balance and change direction during flight.
Other: Libra's gift is, simply put, an electrical charge. She can turn it 'on' and 'off' at will, but the energy is always present in her body. She can't discharge this electricity very far from her body (a few feet, at the most), so it's not good for long-range combat, but in close quarters, it can be very useful. However, this does have its limits; keeping her charge 'on' for extended periods of time drains her reserves, and she has to wait for it to recharge after use. The time this takes is equivalent to the amount of time she used her ability. So, a few seconds of zapping requires a few seconds to restore the lost energy, and so on. If her energy runs too low, she'll become lethargic, and could potentially pass out.
Unlike most dragons, Libra does not breathe fire. Instead, she has lightning bolts. Compared to the standard fire breath, these are much faster, can cover a longer range, and are often more accurate to boot. But she can't maintain a continuous stream of lightning for very long. About five seconds is her maximum before she has to stop and fire again. Her teeth, claws, horns, and spikes serve as other weapons she can use in combat.
High up in the Tivialian Mountains is a somewhat large cavern that serves as a sort of secret library for Libra. Of course, there are those who know where to find it, but for the most part, it's a relatively private place. It can be a bit hard to find, as the entrance is not nearly as large as the rest of the cave at its start. The further into the rock it goes, the more it widens up until you reach the main library space. Once inside, a number of alcoves filled with lit candles, torches, or lanterns, along with a few natural skylights, provide the necessary light to see and get around safely. All along the walls are shelves (either naturally formed or dragon-made) that hold hundreds of books and scrolls that Libra has gathered over the years, from both the elven and human realms. The writings cover all manner of subjects, from magic, to science, to language, and pretty much anything else that's ever been written about, fiction and non-fiction alike. She continues to add to her collection as frequently as she can.
