Name: Jiyuu
Gender: Male
Creator: the Fire Elemental
Personality: Jiyuu is, in a word, childlike. Naive to almost no end, he holds a rather simple, trusting view of the world around him. He tends to believe in the good in others on first encounters (even when there's none to be found), and has been hurt on multiple occasions in the past due to this trait. He has yet to gain a full understanding of the ways of the world, and it's not all that difficult for others to see and take advantage of this. But no matter how many times he's been deceived, he's managed to maintain an overall trusting, lighthearted attitude. He rarely seems to be weighed down by worries or troubles for very long, and can forgive and forget with surprising speed.
It's not at all challenging to figure out exactly what's going on in this dragon's head. Highly animated, whatever emotions he happens to be feeling are plainly displayed for all to see. Jiyuu is a high-energy sort, and almost never seems to run out of enthusiasm. He holds a precarious balance on the line between exuberant and flat-out annoying, but most tend to like him well enough. However, he gets to be lonely very easily, and often seeks out the company of others- even complete strangers. He greatly enjoys meeting someone new and making friends but, more often than not, puts a little too much trust or emotional investment into his relationships.
Notoriously reckless, Jiyuu is constantly getting himself into trouble. He acts more on sudden impulses without much thought as to the consequences of his actions, rather than solid reasoning. Forethought is something of a foreign concept, but his impulses tend to be good. A persistent curiosity doesn't much help matters, as he can't seem to keep his nose out of where it doesn't belong. He's also rather flighty. With his constant changes in plans, emotions, or opinions, he can be a bit hard to keep up with some days. He's honestly not trying to cause trouble for anyone, it just sort of... happens.
Patience is another principle that doesn't quite 'click' with Jiyuu. He can't stand waiting, and becomes more than a little agitated when forced to hold off on something. He tends to fidget, and when he can finally act on whatever desire he's holding, often does so with a little too much passion. Mistakes are common because of this. But so long as he can get straight to work, everything turns out fine (usually). There are occasions when his impatience has also led him to skip over or fumble in important steps of a plan. He's trying, but as of yet, this characteristic has seen little improvement.
Appearance: Jiyuu is a bit small as far as most dragons go. Excluding his tail, he's about the size of a large horse (a Clydesdale, for example). His tail is a little less than twice the length of the rest of his body, from shoulders to rear. He has a well-muscled build and, for a dragon of his size, possesses a good amount of strength. Both of his forefeet carry four toes, and are dexterous enough to act as hands- thumbs and all. His hind feet are more like paws; they even have a similar sort of padding on the bottom. Each toe is tipped with a long white claw.
Where most dragons have scales, Jiyuu is covered in bright red feathers. A thin crest of these feathers can be found on his head, running about a third of the way down his neck. They're also particularly prominent on the front of his neck, and on the backs of jointed areas (like his elbows). Halfway down his tail, the feathers lighten from red to a pale yellow, and create a thin fan at the end. And while his wings appear to be made up entirely of feathers as well, there's actually a thin membrane beneath all that plumage, which is attached entirely to the rest of Jiyuu's body.
Another somewhat outstanding trait he has is a pair of visible ears. They're a little (or rather, a lot) on the longer side, but stiff, not floppy, and have a nearly unrestricted range of movement. (And let's be honest, they look a bit ridiculous when standing straight up.) His eyes are a bright, clear shade of orange, like fire, and have small, thin pupils (like a cat or snake would).
Other: Naturally, feathers can't do much in the way of protection when it comes to combat. Luckily for Jiyuu, his abilities can remedy this flaw; he can shapeshift, in a sense, but not into other creatures. Instead, he can change the composition of his feathers into a hard, metallic substance. Tougher than steel, it's a very good defense against claws and teeth, as well as the breath attacks of some dragons (unless they happen to have something other than fire or ice at their disposal). A sort of secondary power linked to his shifting can be used for offense, as well; he can fire of and quickly re-grow the feathers on his tail and wings like projectiles (throwing knives, to be precise- they're just as sharp). As it's easier to aim, he usually uses his tail for this. Other weapons at his disposal are his teeth and claws (although his teeth are a little on the short side, and not all that sharp), along with the standard fire breath. Nothing special.
